Admission Requirements

General Requirements for Admission to the MNS Program 1. Minimum GPA of 2.75 (on a 4 point scale) for last 30 semester hours of undergraduate science and math courses. 2. Two letters of recommendation addressing the applicant's potential for academic success in the respective area of emphasis. Additional Requirements for Admission to the MNS in Applied Chemistry
1. Completion of an undergraduate degree with a 2.75 GPA (on a 4 point scale) for the last 60 hours of course work.
2. Submission of scores for the general portion of the Graduate Record Exam (verbal, quantitative, and analytical).
3. Submission of two letters of recommendation from individuals competent to evaluate the candidate’s potential for academic and professional success (may be the same letters submitted to meet the general admission requirement).
4. Completion of at least fifteen hours of chemistry coursework, with scores of C or better in all Organic and Analytical chemistry coursework. “Analytical chemistry” may be Quantitative Analysis, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Instrumentation, Instrumental Analysis, or a similar course.
5. A decision by the Chemistry Department Graduate Committee in favor of admission to the MNS Program. The decision will be made on the basis of GRE scores, two letters of recommendation, and the candidate’s application materials submitted to the Graduate Office for admission to graduate study at the University.
Note: A candidate may petition the Chemistry Department for a waiver of no more than one of the requirements listed above. The petition should include a written statement from the student that makes a compelling case for the waiver.
