(Unofficial) Course Description:  Graduate Biology Seminar is a course designed to prepare our students to carry on as professional scientists.  The primary activity of the course will be to give one or two oral presentations.  The goal is to instruct the student on how to convey the results of scientific inquiry to an informed audience.  The collateral benefit is that we all (students and instructor) will get to consider in detail familiar and unfamiliar areas of biology.  Molecular biologists will consider physiology, anatomists will hear about evolutionary ecology, and so on.

Other activities will relate to career to preparation, such as preparing a resume or curriculum vitae, and joining a professional society.  Cases involving ethical issues related science will be assigned.  Finally, everyone will be required to complete laboratory safety training.

In no small way the course is guided by the Portfolio Guidelines of the Department.
