Textbooks and alternatives: There is a text book used by undergraduates in the "face to face" course. You may want to rent or buy one. However, only two sections are used in the web version of the course, for safety issues and for defining inquiry. You may use web sites to complete these assignments if you choose not to rent or buy the book. If you choose to use web sites, you MUST provide reference to them in your written answers to the assignments (give a reference list with complete addresses). The text book is available for rental at the Textbook Rental office, in the University Center (second floor) or may be purchased online from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. The text is: Trowbridge, L.W., R.W. Bybee and J.C. Powell. Teaching Secondary School Science, 7th Ed. Columbus, OH: Merrill, 2000. What technology is needed for this web course? This course is conducted electronically, so you need to know how to do some things. You will need access to the internet and to email. You will need to be able to attach documents to email messages, and to receive attached messages. You should know how to copy assignments from the internet into a word processing program (ideally, Word) and then to complete the assignments in Word. You may need to learn to scan documents for your teacher work sample. You can likely get help from technical support at your school. If you have unresolvable problems, email the course instructor to see what can be worked out. You will be doing a lot of reading on line, so you may want to download a free copy of the Adobe Acrobat reader, if you don't already have one. You can download Acrobat Reader at the following link http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
