Standards and Frameworks

NSTA standards The National Science Teacher's Association is the body that evaluates teacher education programs in the sciences.    The NSTA standards are much more extensive on the content and nature of science.   We will not be using these standards in this course.

To further describe these standards, the Missouri Grade Level Expectations (GLE's) are being developed to assist districts in aligning their curricula.   Further,  Missouri's Assessment Plan (MAP) is based on this framework.

Missouri's Show Me Standards

In Missouri, the Show Me Standards, which are state law, were adopted in 1996.  As you know the Show Me Standards are just brief statements covering both skills and content.

Carefully developed by scientists and educators,  the National Science Education Standards are guides to quality for science education.   Most states have responded in some way to these national standards since their publication in 1995.
